In March 2018, Dr Christine Patch, Clinical lead for Genetic Counselling at Genomics England and the new co-lead for G2NA, was interviewed about G2NA for a podcast by Health Education England’s Genomics Education Programme. In it, Chris emphasises the pace at which genomics is advancing and that “nurses have to be aware of it.” She goes on to say that:
“Nurses are the people that are the front-facing workforce with families and patients with inherited diseases. They will be the ones that will be identifying families that might need specialist referral but also will need to know enough about genetics and genomics to be able to use it in their practice. It is going to influence the whole of nursing practice.”
Chris talks about the work of the G2NA with its global reach and aim to bring genomics into everyday nursing practice and education, through working together for patient benefit. Listen to the podcast here.
